Did you intend for Gabriel to be a bit of an alphahole, or did it come naturally to his character, and did you do anything to try and counteract that, because he turned out to be one of the most lovable book boyfriends ever? Also, what adversities, if any, did you have to overcome being a man in a genre full of females? How do you think that has advantaged or disadvantaged your writing? I love your books and Gabriel!

Hello Camryn,
Thanks for your question.
In many ways, Gabriel is perhaps one of the most complicated characters I've ever written. He is arrogant, but that isn't the whole of his personality. He can be thoughtful, loving, self-doubting, etc. I think it's the complexity of his character and also the way his love for Julia changes him that appeals to readers.
I don't think I've been disadvantaged. I've been blessed and very lucky. I write stories that I believe appeal to men and women and I'm fortunate that my novels have been well received.
All the best and thanks for reading, SR

Hello SR. For my Creative Writing class we were asked to choose a book to read during class. Naturally I chose Gabriel's Inferno; being that it is the first book in my favorite trilogy. My teacher asked us to find what she calls a "writer's quote on writing". After many failed Google searches, I decided to just ask you myself. May I have a quote directly from you that depicts your feelings on being a writer? Thank you
