Miriam asked Grace Burrowes:

hi Grace, will the new book about "Sir John Dewey Fanning (Jack to his familiars)" explain why he's Sir Dewey to everyone else? That's how he's been identified in Axel and The Virtuoso and possibly in other books as well. Looking forward to reading his and Madeline's story!

Grace Burrowes For years, he was plain Jack Fanning, then his exploits in India got him knighted. Among his Army buddies, he became Sir Jack--how many people do you know who go by their middle name, after all? But he has an uncle also named John so when he was back among family in England, the equally inaccurate Sir Dewey stuck.... the ambiguity about his name will serve a symbolic purpose in his book, reflecting how torn he is between cultures and identities. And because he's a Jaded, his book title will reflect his name--Jack--instead of Dewey. That struck me as more heroic, but maybe I'll change my mind, and he'll get Dewey as his title. Don't know yet.
