Good question. I have four different series. A sci-fi, dystopian, and urban fantasy. This one is intended to be a YA fantasy. Since I write so much it was important to me that my books didn't start to sound like regurgitation. I want each character to be fresh and new with characteristics that set them apart. I also strive for unique settings in each book. Since this book was about a circus, I knew that it would feel really different from the other books. However, all my books are a part of the same universe and so I like for them to be loosely tied together while also being uniquely different. That does take some planning, but I'm happy with how this one turned out. Many long time readers say they feel like it is written by a different author, which hopefully means I can change my colors at will to keep readers entertained.
