I wonder how your personal training as a dog musher help inform Victoria's character. She is a teenager, so I imagine you had to whittle down the knowledge she might have in regard to surviving out in the icy conditions. Can you tell me your process in developing her as a character?

Terry Lynn Johnson When I wrote ICE DOGS, my stepdaughters were teenagers. Victoria's character was shaped from my experience of how some teens act and speak and what they know. Memories of my own upbringing helped as well. But I mostly just tried to write an authentic dogsledding story without worrying much about age.
