Hi Katie, First, I would like to let you know how much I love your books, they really changed my perception on reading. I just have a few questions for you: How did you know that you wanted to be an author? What advice would you give to an amateur writer?

How did I know I wanted to be an author? I was born a story teller. For as long as I remember, I've been making stories up in my head. It's just a part of who I am, who God made me to be. But I didn't have the confidence to start writing those stories until I was in my early thirties. I didn't believe I could do it. Don't be me. If you love to write, start writing. :-)
As for advice, write and write a lot. Read. Join a critique group. Learn about the craft of writing. My favorite book on writing is John Truby's Anatomy of Story and my favorite online classes on writing are by Margie Lawson.
