N.K. Jemisin He wouldn't be a cat. :) Naha's never taken on an animal form; that's for godlings to do, and Sieh's as close to what Naha would be like as a cat -- spectral and huge, with fur so black in color that it hurts the mind -- as it gets. Naha's doing good to take on a vaguely human form, really; most of the time Naha just wants to amorphously cloud around.

Hello. I recently reread "The City Born Great" (Great Story!) in preparation for reading the The City We Became. I read that the short inspired the book. Did you find yourself adapting the short and retaining the main character or did you find yourself taking the idea and expanding the narrative with no regard to characters and set pieces? Or, were you inspired to write the book first and test tone voice in short?

I both bought and read the Broken Earth trilogy twice, so I hope you can answer two questions. Is the TV show on the series still in the works? I ssusoect from another answer that the project won’t happen. Will you do a book tour after the Coronavirus pandemic ends, and would you come to the San Francisco area?
