So is this book in the horror genre? I have been reading reviews and no one has really said, "Wow this story was scary".

Chris H As some have already commented, King's style doesn't fit into one folder. Unless you're (as King refers to his following) a constant reader or are at least quite familiar with his work, you'd never know that The Stand, The Green Mile and Rita Hayworth came from the same imagination.
DK Sturdivant Not really. More oddities type. Unsettling would be my choice to describe the stories. They were enjoyable, but not scary at all.
Alex Some of the stories are in the horror genre (Mile 81), and some of them just have darker twists but aren't really horror. They all have the King edge to them though.
Judi Great stories well told. Stephen has a way of sucking you into his universe. I haven't finished the book but can hardly put it down. He is the master of short stories.
Kenneth Buff They're more like the Different Seasons stories (only shorter). A little creepy, but nothing like his scarier stuff. Still great reads though.
William Bevill Fantasy/science fiction but Mile 81 seems to be the lone "horror."
▫️Ron S. King is almost exclusively "dark fantasy". Few of his novels rate as horror, IMHO. His horror short story hayday was back in the Skeleton Crew era.
That said - there are plenty of scares in store for characters in the stories (if not the reader, necessarily).
Farnham It's been a while since King thought of himself as a "horror" writer. He is on record as having stated that he has no use for genre labels which makes sense when a writer has a broad imagination. Of course he is skilled at tales of terror but he has grown over the years as a writer who explores wider terrain of humanity than fear alone, but still he entertains.
Natalia Pantaley In my opinion some of these stories are in the suspense genre.
Robbert Horror is an emotion. And genre purism is dumb.
