Scorpio-of-Autumn
Scorpio-of-Autumn asked Nenia Campbell:

What's your reaction to all the fanfiction plagiarism that's been happening on Amazon recently? And what can you say to writers out there who have fanfiction posted? Are they at risk, even if their stories might not be well-known?

Nenia Campbell I feel like the latest P2P (pulled to publish) fanfiction craze has blurred the definition of "original fiction" and confused some people as to what is plagiarism and what isn't. I do not agree with P2P, personally, but this does not mean that I think people who plagiarize such works should get off scot-free (especially if they repost said works for profit). Anyone who posts creative content in a public venue is at risk, whether it's original fiction, fanfiction, or even a review. I've seen all three happen. Keep screenshots of time stamps, save each new edition of your work as a distinct file, and be prepared to show proof of ownership if you need to report someone for plagiarism or get something removed from a piracy website. I've been plagiarized and had my works uploaded to piracy sites before, and was able to have my work removed in both instances because I was able to provide proof that I was the creator/copyright holder of the works. Hope that helps!
