Mary-Sarah asked Charles Sheehan-Miles:

How would you say you incorporate diversity (racial, sexual orientation, disability etc.) in your novels?

Charles Sheehan-Miles I don't particularly set out to incorporate diversity. But I do write about the world I see around me, which includes people of color, disabled people, mental health issues, war, sexual orientation, gender ... all things that we live in our lives.

I do always try to put myself into the shoes of the characters I write about, whether they look like me or not. Sometimes I'm more successful at that than others, but I think it's essential to be empathetic if you're going to write compelling stories.
