I believe the red sun was due to being too close to it, so the Lord ruler created so ash mounts to keep the world cool, and as a result gave Scadrial's sun the appearance of being red.

No. As confirmed in this article on Tor (https://www.tor.com/2016/03/01/brando...) we know that Reckoners isn't part of the Cosmere Universe and we're getting a new trilogy in the Reckoners universe (potentially showing Firefight's world)
