I love that you narrate many of your own audiobooks. Are the physical voices you give your characters their own, or are they based on speech patterns and idiosynchracies of people in your life?

Thanks, Laura! A lot of my choices are dictated by my range. I can only go so deep without soundign strained, so high without getting REALLY irritating. :) SO I use accents and speech patterns as well as tone---but these are also limited by my range. I listen to a LOT of audiobooks and get speech pattern and tone ideas from actors I admire, and of course I use people I know as well, if they have distinctive ways of speaking. I am getting ready to record THE ALMOST SISTERS next week, so I loved running across this question now as I work to create voices. It was encouraging.

I enjoyed your latest novel.. by a strange coincedence I was reading your book on our road trip from Texas to Florida. We stayed overnight in Mobile and I was at the part where Davis goes to Joe Pattis to pick up seafood in Pensacola. I was curious to see if it was a real place and my husband said . yes this is where we are going tom! I was excited....lol. Have you spent time in this area to pick it as a setting?

Hi - I absolutely LOVE the way you write and have read all your books! i consider myself an avid reader, and as such, feel that my opinions about books are based on all the wonderful and not so wonderful books i have read in the past. i assume that you, and all avid readers, do the same. So, i am asking this because i value your opinion. You give every book that it says you have read on here 5 stars. how can that be?
