A Goodreads user asked A.G. Howard:

Hi! :) I was wondering if you are an outliner of if you prefer to make it up as you go along? Or are you somewhere in between?

A.G. Howard I lean toward pantster, and usually only do skeleton plots which allows for me to be organic and flexible when I’m writing. But it can depend on the book.

For Splintered, I had to map out the scenes in Wonderland since it gets a little complicated—who Alyssa and Jeb would meet, what roles the creatures would play in their “quest”, and even what “tests” Alyssa would be expected to fulfill in order to come home.

Even with it plotted out, it still didn’t turn out exactly as I’d planned. The characters all had a few surprises for me along the way, most especially Morpheus. And most especially at the end…;)
