When you start a series, such as Virgin River, do you ever plan far enough ahead to have that many books in a series or do you continue on because of the response you get from readers? I love the series and am very grateful you've continued.

I continued the Virgin River series to 20 books for three reasons -- it still felt fresh and new to me, I still had more plot and character ideas that didn't feel 'used' and the readers were loving them. I stopped at 20 because at that number new readers were reluctant to get into a series with that many books because if they really loved one, they'd have so many to read! Also the margin for error was greatly increased with so many details to keep track of and it was time for something that felt new.
