Hi! I read Between Shades of Gray and Out of the Easy, and they were incredible! Do you consider yourself better with writing out a character or setting/plot/events? What do you feel is more important?

Hi Ashley!
I think character, setting, and plot are all equally important, but I'm definitely a "character writer." Creating characters and stories around those characters comes easily, but I have to work very hard researching setting and building plot. :-)

You're my fave author. I absolutely love your stories. I always form an emotional conncetion with the characters and end up crying as a result. I have just finished reading Salt to the Sea and I realized that Joana is the cousin Lina talked about in Between Shades of Gray. When you were writing Between Shades of Gray, did you know that you were going to write another book book on Joana's story or was it sponteous?
