Quina asked Katie McGarry:

Hi , Mrs. Mcgarry, I really feel that your books are the kind of books I would like to write... I have two questions. Do you ever think you create characters with disabilities? How do you work on characterization?

Katie McGarry Hi Quina,

I have written characters who are dealing with mental issues. Echo from Pushing the Limits has a memory loss (which is based on a memory loss I had from a traumatic experience in my childhood) and Rachel from Crash Into You is dealing with severe anxiety and panic attacks.

There are two other characters that I have in mind. One with a learning disability and another with a physical disability, but I have to find the right story for them. Often, these things take time for me to find the right plot.

For characterization, I really get to know my characters. Their likes and dislikes. Their favorite color, favorite band. I get to know them very deeply and that helps me write them in the story.

Thank you for reading my books!

Katie
