Sriparna asked Tammy L. Bailey:

What is the best recipe to develop side characters in a novel?

Tammy L. Bailey Great question! In my current book, Lord Bachelor, I actually developed the main character, Edmund, by watching Tom Mison's portrayal of Mr. Bingley in the movie Lost in Austen, a Pride and Prejudice adaptation. In some scenes, I believe he stole the show. He was a side character, but funny and emotional. His dialogue made the movie more enjoyable.

I just don't believe side characters should be a backdrop. They can move the scene and add depth to the overall book or movie. So, my best recipe is to give the side character a memorable character trait or a quirky habit. I hope I was able to answer your question. Take care.
