Kate
Kate asked Susan Wittig Albert:

What inspired you to write a book about the relationship between Eleanor Roosevelt and Lorena Hickok?

Susan Wittig Albert I ran across Hick in Blanche Cook's biography of ER and thought she sounded interesting--first woman AP journalist! Then I read Doris Faber's biography of Hick, which I found offensive. (If you don't like someone, don't try to write her biography--your bias will be clear.) For more insight, I read Straitmatter's collection of letters, and then read more of the collection at the FDR. By that time, I knew I wanted to share what I had found: the story of two remarkable women who loved each other (in different ways at different times) for 30 years.
