What would you recommend to college students dealing with "literature" snob professors who think that genre fiction isn't worth reading or writing?
My overly snarky answer is: "Recognize that they're professors, not working writers, and so their opinion and experience is limited to telling other people how to do things they themselves were not able to do."
Really, though, just take the class, do well, get past their nonsense. Or show them up with something genre that is also literary. Or remind them casually that literary fiction often subsidizes genre fiction. Or go find a better, smarter, less judgeypants professor.
