Marie asked Sherrilyn Kenyon:

In all the time travel lore I know, people want to avoid stepping on an insect and derailing the course of human history. So why would the Arelim send Kody back to kill Nick's ancesters FIRST? Wouldn't they go after Nick before risking any more damage? And given that he's supposed to be strongest of his line, why did they think they would succeed in Killing him when they failed to kill his weaker forefathers?

Sherrilyn Kenyon Well, I've never done what other people do. I failed coloring in first grade because I refused to use normal hair color on the pages we were given or to stay within the lines. :) It's why my Daimon race isn't a true vampire race and why they don't live forever, but die at age 27 and have to kill to live longer. I like to march to my own music ;)

They don't care about ending the world early. It's gone. Time doesn't have the same meaning to them that it does to us. As immortals, they have a different understanding of time. Their concern is stopping the Malachai, whatever it takes and they know they've lost their war to him. So to them, they have nothing to lose at this point. Their only goal is annihilation. To them mankind is better off dying by grace than by the Malachai's army. As for Nick, Kody arrives before his powers are unlocked and he isn't a Malachai when she first gets there. She could have easily succeeded had she killed him on arrival, but she made the decision not to. They didn't send her to Nick first, because they knew she'd run into her family in New Orleans and were afraid of how she'd react to seeing them. They were trying to protect her and you have to remember, she's a fierce and powerful demigod herself. Her downfall is her compassion and her heart. Hugs!
