I would also recommend this book for girls aged 13-16, and it is relatively clean, however the one sexual relationship in the book might need some parental guidance. It's worth knowing that the girl almost instantly realizes she wasn't ready, and it might be a good way to help young girls learn from her mistake. However I don't think the author does a good enough job going in to why a girl might or might not make the decision to have sex for the age the book is really written for. Also, this sexual relationship is with a college aged guy, so that's a big time no no, which the book does not make at all clear.

That depends on what you believe. I know some people (like my parents) would not like the mention of teen drinking, making out and having sex. I'm sure my parents would have burned the book and tried to burn everyone else's copy too. I think by the time kid's are in middle/high school they should know the difference between right and wrong and have the presence of mind to be able to read a book or watch a movie without acting out the less desirable portions in their own lives. This book does mention teens drinking in two different places and one of the girls does have sex although it is not spelled out in detail. It focuses more on how she felt afterward. These things are not a major focus and quickly passed so I'd say those things are very mildly used in this book. I just think it is good for parents to know it is there.
I do think though, that the valuable lessons that can be learned through this book well outweigh those other things. If I had a daughter around 15 I'd get her the book. My boys just are not interested lol

I was very disappointed. The book was "clean" in that it didn't go into detail about the sexual relationships. But, it was not appropriate for 12 to 13 year olds. One of the girls had a relationship, as some of the other answers have mentioned. However, the only negative consequence was that she felt bad because she was too young. No mention of commitment. No mention of marriage. No mention of possible pregnancy, STDs, etc. I would not recommend this book for a young girl.

There is some bad language in it, which no one else seemed to mention. I'd say there were many sexual references, not just one. If they read the first one they will want to read the next sets, which means they will encounter more sexual relationships. I would not recommend for someone under the age of 17, but I very much enjoyed the book as an adult. As a young teen, I would not recommend for my daughter.

I read it when I was 11/12, and I think I read it a little prematurely. I'd recommend it for 13-16ish, and it is clean except for a few sexual references and suggestive content.

This book is definitely a good middle school-9th grade read. It easy, fast, and engaging. There is minimal reference to sex, but it's glazed over with no real detail.
Sophie
I would recommend it for 11- adult my mom enjoyed it shortly before I read it.
