Goodreads asked Alec Peche:

How do you get inspired to write?

Alec Peche I get inspired by simply walking down the street. Yesterday, I was out in my neighborhood doing my usual 3 mile walk or run. I saw a shiny black Cadillac in a parking lot at a school (closed for the summer) and half a block down I saw two young men briefly interact with each other, before the one man headed for the car, got in , and the car was moving almost before the door closed. My mind was spinning out a story for what I had just seen across the street. Was this a drug deal? Why was the car so clean, the windows so tinted dark and idling at the school? For the next 5 minutes of my walk I spun out the mystery in my mind.

On the non-creative side, I have a schedule pinned to a cork board with how many words I am supposed to have written by a certain date. That keeps the pressure on to be productive at writing.
