I plan many of the chapters well in advance and organize basic information and then let it simmer in my brain for a while before I ever have to write the chapter (the subconscious is a powerful tool). Also, before I write, I play the same piece of music which puts my brain in the correct frame to write. It could be any same, but keep it consistent.
