J.B. asked R.M. Ridley:

Do you write from an outline or do you let the story tell you where it wants to go?

R.M. Ridley Well I don't know how this slipped past me - I'm sorry it took so long to reply.
I can't plot a story out. Once I try to do that I run into a wall larger than even my imagination can handle.
I tend to say that I'm not so much writing the story, as I am recording it. The images and dialogue come to me and I put it into words on the page. I don't even do this in order - the tale is written, bit by bit, all over the arc of the book and slowly gets stitched together until I have a finished product.
