Goodreads asked David K. Crabtree:

How do you get inspired to write?

David K. Crabtree I could never write down all the ideas that I get. Sometimes it's a spark or alternate story line from a movie or TV mystery. Just as often though it is from what is happening around us or what has happened in the past. I have a small tape recorder and can also record on my cell phone. If I like the premise I will make some audio notes. If I still like it after reviewing those notes I will write a general premise and put it in a file. The greatest way to be inspired is to always think like a writer. When you are out doing your errands can you find a story? Is there one at the grocery store, while waiting to get a hair cut? Why is the mail so late? Or can you put all three, or even more locations or events into your story.
