I suddenly have an idea - it can come in a dream, or from a conversation, or from observing the Nature - but I suddenly "see" a piece of a scene, or a dialogue, then I contemplate that, and fantasize about expanding it into a whole plot - this is a process of inspiration. Sitting down and typing it all can come months after this "epiphany".
