Tracy Stairmand
Tracy Stairmand asked Roderick Gordon:

I know this may have been asked of you before now, but where did the idea come from to write the Tunnels series? By the way, I'm a mum of 2 young boys and we loved this story. Regards, Tracy

Roderick Gordon Hi Tracy, it was born out of some very hard work one day when I was digging and becoming very hot and tired, and my mind started to wander and I dreamt up the Will Burrows character. The other part of the equation was what Brian WIlliams had heard about the Williamson tunnels in Liverpool - there had been various myths knocking around about them while he was growing up, but the one that caught both our imaginations was when some workmen had been working on a road and unexpectedly knocked through to a cobbled street below. I never knew if the story was really true, but it sparked the idea for the Colony, and gave us the impetus to start the story. Do say hello to your boys from me! Kind regards, Roderick
