The movie Home, is very very loosely based off the book.

If you like the movie "Home," go read the book--it's a pretty quick read, the action is well-paced and it's just... FUN. Don't cheat yourself. Such a page-turner. Plus I was laughing out loud like an idiot on the subway while reading this on my commute.
P.S. Beyond it's entertainment value, let's just say it's an excellent middle-grade introduction to the topics of colonialism, race, and culture. In case you were looking for a fun way to talk to your kids about social issues. SPOILERS: https://ladygeekgirl.wordpress.com/20...

Yes, the movie Home is based on this book. Though, from what I can tell from the book summary, the movie was much more brilliant than the book. It is for a young age group, but in the perspective of a writer, the movie was brilliant (i.e., fantastic plot, fantastic culture development, surprisingly rational/ almost realistic, realistic character motivations, and as far as I can tell, there were no plot holes. In fact, the movie tied things together that may have seemed like a mention-it-once-and-never-mention-it-again sort of thing, so that those seemingly unimportant events had meaning and/or purpose later on. Even before the movie, there was a DreamWorks trademark animation (the boy fishing from a crescent moon) that was altered slightly and that practically summarized the entire movie).

Yes, it is! However, there are differences. While the book is aimed at the 12 to 14 year old age group, the movie is aimed at a much younger audience. In many ways, the movie stays true to the book with some minor details and the end of the book is quite different from the movie.
