Jen asked:

Has anyone read a book similar to this or that reminded them of this book? I can see how the writing might not be up to par for some people, but for some reason I can't get the style out of my head and want to read something similar...

Mande Peer Anything by CK Walker, Elias Witherow, Aaron Shotwell, Vincent Vena Cava, Slimebeast, IPostAtMidnight

Penpal was originally an r/nosleep creepypasta released in sections by 1000Vultures. In my opinion, when creepypasta authors are good at what they do, they're better than 90% of horror novelists. They pack a hell of a punch so it's not odd at all that you'd be taken in by this writing style.
Randy I have the perfect answer! I read Penpal a year ago or so and I also loved the simplistic but highly effective writing style. I just finished The Dweller by Jeff Strand and while the story is completely different, the writing style was very similar and I couldn't stop thinking of Penpal while reading it. As a bonus, not only is the style similar but The Dweller is a fantasic book. Both Penpal and Dweller are in my personal top 20 books of all time. Hope you enjoy - let me know what you think!
Anais The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor I think is rather similar in tone, some themes and pacing.
Caroline C.K Walker's Borrasca is amazing and pretty much in the same writing style, frol a child and then teen point of view, first person too, and a reddit author also.
ryan Revenge by Yoko Ogawa is pretty good. It's a horror short story collection about various characters, but like Penpal, they're all connected in some weird way. It's a quick read, too.
Vanessa Waltman "NOS4A2" by Joe Hill
This book is a very simplistic remberance of childhood where as NOS4A2 goes into extreme depth throughout an entire lifetime. It is very spooky and one of my favorite books. It's definantly more advanced than Penpal but NOS4A2 is along the same basic lines.
Ella Came here to suggest C.K Walker's Borrasca, and gladly saw that it was already suggested. I'd just like to add that it's also a fantastic listening experience. I can't recommend youtuber MrCreepyPasta's "audiobook" enough! You can listen to the whole story for free as it's on youtube.
Sarah Also looking for similar books! I can't get the style out of my head either. Such a good book.
Panos Gr Well if you're asking about content I recently read We Were Liars by E. Lockhart which was fucking chilling to the bone. Definitely recommend it.
Of course the writing is professional as opposed to redditer Dathan Auerbach's Penpal, so in the case that your lookng for his writing style maybe search for other stories on reddit?
