Hi Lori I sooo love your books, cant decide on a favorite... "Ultimate" series being my current interest.... Wish you all the best, and keep gifting us with great stories :) P.s How do you get inspired for a story? Do you do some intense research first about general theme, or does idea just comes naturally and then you go from there? Greetings from Serbia
Lori Foster
Hi Dzej,
Thanks for the interest.
Let's see... I guess it all depends on the book and whether or not I already know enough about the careers of the main characters. For some series, like the Men Of Honor, I had to do research for human trafficking.
For the Ultimate series, I had a decent background knowledge and familiarity with the sport since I'd been a fan forever - literally since the earliest days of the UFC, before weight classes and "rounds." (Used to be tourney style.)
When research is necessary, I do it as I need it, never in advance. I like to stick with stuff pertinent to my story, not get lost in a lot of unneeded facts and figures that probably won't interest readers.
My main plot ideas always start with a hero and heroine in a tantalizing scene (could be a conflict, a love scene, whatever) and my Muse builds out from that. :-)
Who are they?
How'd they get to that spot?
How will they resolve it?
I start writing, and the story falls into place for me as I go.
Hope that makes sense!
Thanks again. :-D
