Cathy asked Katie McGarry:

You have a recurring character who is a school counselor/social worker. Most books and movies tend to portray school counselors as either incompetent or malicious (I guess in order to heighten dramatic tension, or something!) but you portray Mrs. Collins very positively, as an adult role model who actively helps the teenagers to solve their problems. What was your inspiration to write her that way?

Katie McGarry Hi Cassia,

I absolutely love Mrs. Collins! She was inspired by a blend of adults who were fantastic to me during my teen years. There were several teachers and school administrators who went out of their way to help me. It is because of them, and God, that I am who I am today.

Thank you,

Katie
