From the handful of reviews I've seen a trend ....If you're a left winger it sucked, and if you're a right winger than it's okay..... way to stay objective and not read within the context of your own political tendencies.... sheeeeeeshhhhh. Anybody read this and can comment without using the words fascist, sexist, racist?

As a former intelligence analyst, I can say I enjoyed the book. There is character development of the spies and there are numerous examples of valid espionage tactics. The military responses are well written and believe it or not come with better justification than the real world usually allows.
From a political point of view, it's a book. let it go. It is NOT the Constitution. Stop trying to be an armchair activist, untwist your panties and stop having opinions about things of which you have no comprehension.
You are not that important, and neither is your viewpoint. Neither is mine for that matter. it's called entertainment.
Don't buy it if it bothers you. Reading some of these obviously liberal opinions of a conservative book that was not written with their feelings in mind is like conservatives getting upset that half of Anne Rice's characters are gay or bisexual. Don't buy what you don't like. I didn't like the Rocky Horror Picture show. I also didn't go online to complain about it. Grow up you silly bunch of whiny narcists. Just grow up.

Well, I am the quite the liberal when it comes to politics, yet I was not offended by his portrayals of Democrats. I mean sure, we are not rapists, but someone needed to be the bad guy, and in this case it just happened to be a Democrat. Gerry Hendley, who starts the Campus in the next novel as a major good guy, is a former Democratic senator. As for the portrayals of the Chinese, I feel it is borderline racist, but he only portrayed the government officials as such; he made heroes out of the ordinary civilians.

I'm still in the process of reading it but geez, the politics are harsh. Ryan is grating as a conservative Dudley do-right, his depiction of the Chinese does border on discriminatory, and overall his politics are so blatant I feel like I'm reading a Pat Buchanan script.

No matter how you feel about politics and stereotypes, the book needed a brave editor in the worst way. There is far too much repetition and far too much unnecessary preaching/commentary. Clancy got lazy in just recycling all his old favorite military heroes with higher rank so that he didn't have to actually develop their characters in any way.
