Yes!!! This is an amazing book discussion book. I had to read it for school and we discussed it every 4 chapters. Even if you only discuss at the end of the book it is still great. I would recommend writing down thoughts and predictions as you go along with reading the book. Discuss stereotypes!
Autumn
definitely! it provides great discussion points and controversial scenarios. this book will bring out someone's opinions and how they view the world.
Mia
YES! There are so many good parts in this book that would make a great discussion! Not only that, but it is good for entertainment as well.
Maya
Absolutely! There is a myriad of points in the book that can definitely provoke thoughtful discussion in a book club. The characters make decisions in the book that can be deemed controversial and I recommend discussing these in detail as many people have different viewpoints on some of the events in the story.
Ariel
you're gay go away comeback yesterday
Naomi
the outsiders is a great book but I like the movie better. S.E. Hinton should make a second one of the outsiders as a book and movie.
Mike
I agree with Sarah C. This book is the epitome of book club discussion material
Anabelle Mangan
Yes, this is a great book to use for a book club. Back when I was in seventh grade, my school used this book in the curriculum. It has lots of themes and lessons throughout the book and is very enthralling. The climax is in Chapter 9 and there are big events in almost every chapter.
Ava
YES!!! I read and discussed this book for school and loved every moment. There are many themes of friendship, stereotypes, social class, etc. to discuss.
Luna Shart Face
Yes! I read it for school, and there was quite a bit discussion.. a lot of it was voluntary by the students who went to class early.
Emma
I like the movie better because it helps you understand the characters more.
Riece Mayo
This is one of the perfect books to have a discussion about in a book club.
Bailey
Yes, I am reading it in a book club right now!
Natalie Schwartz
It's a great read for YA audience. I question how much depth there is in the novel for a discussion with adults.
Hunter
Yep. I think that it is a really easy book to talk about because the action in it comes very quickly, among others.
Trapical Punch
Definitely! It's got a lot of characters and themes to discuss. You could probably make some kind of seminar out of it, I'm sure there are some really deep questions you can find online specific to the book.
Darryl
muhahaha what ya mean
Nikki
yes it is - and depending on the version, there are discussion questions in the back.
Bill H.
My review was written after discussing it with a group of older adults, all retired. We found much to like, and it triggered many stories of moderately wild times in our own teen years during the same period as the novel. (But good book discussions, outside the classroom, should never be just about the book!)
Olivia Harris
Yes, this book is amazing for a book club or a class reading book. My junior high class read this and we all absolutely loved it. The only problem you may have is people complaining about ending the book for the day because this book has so may good cliff-hangers.
Alex
of course! you can take examples from pony boy's thoughts and actions to show how his spirit develops and how his relationships change.
Kate-Crazy
yes! it is a really good book!
DAVID Carpenter
especially for parents of teens or teens them selves
Blen
Yes, this is a very controversial book to read. Were they efforts correct? What is the definition of "good" in this book?
S. Daisy
I think it would be just the book for a book club to discuss. It's perfect for that.
Shiane
yess this is a good book i read it and if you want to get a book off of a gang topic this would be a good one.
