Goodreads asked N.C. Patterson:

How do you get inspired to write?

N.C. Patterson I read. Hands down. I get some ideas from art, TV, movies, games, etc. But the true inspiration and burning drive to write comes from reading. I've read almost every day of my life since I was little. There is nothing more satisfying. If you aren't reading something every day you can't be a decent writer. And I ALWAYS read physical books. The inspiration just doesn't come if I'm reading on a computer screen, tablet, or kindle. Studies show that there is far less information retention with electronic reading. You can read more about it in Jim Trelease's Read Aloud Handbook. It is a fantastic book for writers and authors--even if it doesn't necessarily seem like it is specific to writing.
