Hi Tracy, I'd love to know what has inspired you to base your last two historical fiction books in the U.S.? I'm intrigued as when I started reading your works, what I enjoyed most was learning about other countries. I'm a huge fan, and I'm looking forward to your new book coming out next year!

Hi Carla--
Well, it was a big surprise to me too that I have set two novels in the US. My previous 6 were all set in Europe, I think because as an American I stand apart from European culture, and my outsider status makes it easier to write about it. Maybe I just had to be away from the US for long enough to feel like an outsider there. (Like 25 years away!) It has turned out to be a huge pleasure writing about America; I feel like I am reconnecting with parts of its history and landscape. Call me crazy, but I am having a little love affair with Ohio. I know, people don't say that much!

I love historical fiction and I have recently discovered your books. I absolutely loved them! As I was reading Girl with a Pearl Earring, I noticed some stylistic similarities between you and author Lynn Cullen, especially her book "I am Rembrandt's Daughter". Have you ever come across with any of the works of Lynn Cullen? Thank you for your contribution to the genre!
