Jonathan Stroud:
Aside from his atrocious accents, has Lockwood ever gone all out and tried to talk to any clients in very poor and mismatched French? Or in any other language(s) he may have learnt in primary/from his parents? (If they were paranormal investigators, I would assume they may have picked up some languages on their travels). ~ Thanks!

He's embarrassed himself in numerous ways, and silly French accents have almost certainly been involved. His parents specialised in far-off regions, but they died when he was quite young, so I don't think he ever picked up Malay or any other equivalent language.

I read your books when I was 12 years old. 10 years later, I confess I still think of Bartimaeus whenever I see a hawk flying overhead. Your work impacted me as a young author. I have you to thank for instilling the urge to think and write creatively. This urge stays with me. What/who was your greatest inspiration for the trilogy? How did you approach the writing process?
