How bad is your first draft of a book, how many rewrites does it take before it isn't shameful, and how many until it's finally finished?

It's not a question of bad - more unfinished. I usually do a rough draft (often incomplete) then a finished one, which I intend to be pretty close to the final thing. Then I give it to my editors and once they've commented make a last round of changes. So: three drafts in all.
