Kate, I don’t have any questions. I thank you for writing this amazing book. It is one of the best books I have ever read! And I read!!! A Lot! I heard your podcast from the Tenement Museum, and I just wanted to say Thank you! Ellie Barrett ?...I had to include a question mark..

How very kind of you to send me this message, it's wind in my sails on a day of struggling over a page and a paragraph. I'm so glad you liked My Notorious Life. Christina Baker Kline and I had a good time talking about the Orphan Train era and the astonishing history of the 1850s at that wonderful Tenement Museum. If you're in NY I recommend a visit. Since I don't have to include a question mark, I'll put in an exclamation point: Thank you Ellie Barrett!

I love both of your books and am always recommending them to friends. Each one is so different. So here's my question. I'm interested in researching patent medicines and apothecaries in the 1800s. Can you recommend any resources you relied on while writing about Axie and Charlie's business? Thanks for the help, and I look forward to reading your next book. Lyn

My unusual question is related to work I've done on my family history and the fact that, according to 1860 census data, my 2nd great grandfather was imprisoned in Montgomery County Pennsylvania in 1860, having been charged with Conspiracy to Procure Abortion as a result of the newly-minted PA criminal code earlier that same year. Based on your knowledge of that time period, what might you imagine him to have done?

Hi Kate, We have a book group that has been going strong for 20+ years. I am so fortunate as I will be leading the book discussion on your book My Notorious Life next week. Do you see Axie as a hero? The risks she took...despite the looming consequences. Appreciate your input-I am guessing we are going to have a lively discussion next week :)
