Goodreads asked T.M. Cromer:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

T.M. Cromer Create writing challenges for yourself. Make a list of topics and pull one out of a folder each day to write a 500 to 1000 word essay. Do that for a month. Don't worry about grammar, editing, or whatnot. At the end of the month, you will see how much more smoothly the words flow. This can be done simultaneously when creating your soon-to-be best-selling novel. Sometimes you need a break from what you are working on.

Also, join a writers' group, go to workshops, meet other like-minded individuals. These things feed the beast inside. Don't forget a journal for your ideas. Don't completely delete a scene that isn't working in your current story. Copy and paste it into a document of ideas you might use for other novels down the road. But most importantly WRITE!
