What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Jennifer Weiner I’ve got about twenty pages of advice for aspiring writers on my website – www.jenniferweiner.com -- but the number-one piece of advice is to read. You can’t be a writer if you’re not a reader…although I’m astonished at the number of people who think it can be done, and will blithely announce, “I’ve got a book in me, I just need to find the time to write it,” and when you ask what books or authors they love you get a blank look, if not outright hostility, followed by some variation on, “Oh, I don’t read, I don’t have time for that!” So read everything, both inside your genre and out of it.
