Goodreads asked Matthew O. Duncan:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Matthew O. Duncan It depends on where I’m blocked. If it’s in the beginning , (The Blank Page!) I just start something, either a conversation between two characters, the entrance to a place or a description of a situation. Something that is not necessarily key to the overall story, but also not out of place. I do that just to get started, knowing that it will be okay to get rid of it, if it’s no good. It takes some of the pressure off and lets my mind just be creative. Sometimes it’s enough to get the motor started and sometimes its crap and never sees the light of day, but it almost always leads to something that I keep.
