A wonderful movie and Wilshaw is a career British military officer. James gets put out by things in civilian life that differ from his career, plus his past history with an affair in Cypress also preys heavily on him. James also compares with Major Brendan Archer in the superb book Troubles by J.G. Farrell. It seems as if this is a popular portrayal of lifetime unmarried British military officers.(less)
