My 10 year old son has been assigned this book as part of a reading bowl competition. He is mature, very bright and in gifted education. I don't doubt his ability to read this, but I'm concerned about the emotional punch he might get from such violence and human suffering. He tends to be a bit sensitive. How graphic is the imagery? Is it appropriate for this age? Thoughts?

It was i think my first ww2 book and it was an emotional but I don't remember it being too graphic just very sad but I think no matter what age one is those events are very concerning and sad but this book is one of the best to ease a young reader into the topic of the Holocaust,(less)
