I would say it is, yes. It's a bit of a coming of age story, and definitely has a touch of the common YA plot of "kids having to take care of things behind adults' backs."

It's hard to say... There are no "inappropriate" themes, if that's what you're asking, so I guess it's ok for anyone above the age of 12 or 13. However, it's not typical YA - there are 5 POVs in the series (4 in book one) and only two of the POV characters are teenagers, other 3 are adults. I think the series can be enjoyed by the readers of both YA and adult fantasy :)
