Dianne asked this question about Odd Thomas (Odd Thomas, #1):
Hi Goodreaders! I'm a Stephen King fan so naturally, I was drawn to Dean Koontz books. However, it seems some of his books have an element of evil/horror that may have me not being able to sleep at night. Can someone recommend me a Koontz novel that is a good thriller/suspense; but less on the horror/evil side? Maybe more like Stehpen KIng's 'Misery', 'Christine', 'Cell'. Hope someone can help me!

The biggest difference I find between King and Koontz is the resolution at the end of Koontz' stories. With King, it's usually the evil has been defeated, but not destroyed. It just moves on. Koontz is lighter with more humor interwoven with the characters. You might also want to try Robert McCammon,John Saul, or Dan Simmons. (less)
