April Burke asked David Fleming:

David, I'm having the hardest time getting my son to read anything. He's very behind in language arts and his sentence structure is quite rough. He's 12 and says he likes to read modern, realistic stories. Your book was his favorite so far and I can't find anything else like it. Do you have any suggestions?

David Fleming April, HI, thanks for writing! I remember reading By the Great Horn Spoon! by Sid Fleischman and Danny Champion of the World by Roald Dahl over and over again when I was about 12 or so. Another more contemporary title that I loved as an adult was Holes by Louis Sachar. While the subject matter differs from that in The Saturday Boy, they are realistic stories with very relatable main characters. Hope this helps!

Best,
d
