Goodreads asked Dona Fox:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Dona Fox Wow, that's a great question. At this point, even I have to struggle for an answer to that. Where did this complex world of a traveling circus, peopled with so many warring personalities, that settles down next to a forest filled with vampires come from anyway? I do remember. I can recall clearly when the line "sometimes they fall" and the image of the trapeze artist's partner sprawled in the dirt below like a spent flower--and always I have the image of blood flowing like a flower blooming because I saw that as a small child and I never will forget the sight as a loved one hemorrhaged and died. It may take many iterations, in numerous stories to write that out of my head. So my ideas come from my ghosts and lines and images that pop into my head and won't leave; I begin to mumble them out loud, then I write them down. If the lines and images survive, they become stories.
