Dru asked:

I'm about halfway through, and can't help but notice the main characters are "Harry and Hermine". Seems I've heard something AWFULLY close to those two in a more popular YA novel recently....has JKR ever admitted to taking the names from Steppenwolf?

Annie not specifically that I know of, but she did say once that she "collected names." I've run across names from her books in books from Agatha Christie to Dickens. And it is obvious from her books that she is very well read and knowledgeable about literature. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find she had read Steppenwolfe.
Malola Yeah, Samira is right.
JKR has openly stated that it's form A Winter's Tale from Shakespeare.
Samira Parsa She said that she named her character Hermione because of a character from a Shakespeare play.
WayGood Harry Potter was also a name used in a particular Monty Python sketch, in which people were all of the sudden scotsmen, so there's really no telling
J I don't know, but JKR will never, as Herman Hesse did, win the Nobel Prize for Literature. Personally, I feel Bob Dylan should have never even been considered. Compared to the first American winner, Sinclair Lewis, Dylan is a far cry from those literary heights.
Amber I didn't realize that, and it was staring me in the face! I don't know if JK Rowling ever admitted to that, but it's certainly possible. I think it makes sense, anyway.
Jo It's both close to Hermann, which is the name of the author. Coindicience? I think not.
Caitlyn Yeah, I was like so confused just looking at the name, but from what I've read from the comments, she mentioned that she got those names from different places.
