Zoe asked Jessica Day George:

I'm currently working on a novel-length retelling of Sleeping Beauty. I've yet to encounter an author who reinvents fairy tales as brilliantly as you do, and I was wondering if you have any tips for someone who's trying to do the same?

Jessica Day George You have to decide what you want from your story. Are you looking to do a very serious retelling of of Sleeping Beauty? In which case you need to make sure you read some different versions and get a feel for what things are standard (and what are invented by Disney!). If you want to do a very loose retelling, like nothing is the same except she's asleep for a while, then you just go ahead and let your imagination run wild and do whatever you want. That's about the best advice I can give! And good luck!
