Leslie Frick
Leslie Frick asked:

Does one need to read the Maggie Hope mysteries in order?

Jonathan Yes, they ought to be read in order. An individual title would still be enjoyable, and the dynamics between the primary characters would be clear enough, but by book 5 her familial relationships are such that you need to have read the earlier ones.
Michelle Connell I think it would help, yes. The first book tells how Maggie got started as a spy and each book she has a new case. Besides, they are all enjoyable!
Dorothy Giebel Yes, absolutely. The heroine, Maggie, has experiences that lead the reader to fit pieces of the war time puzzles together. If you lived in that time period it will be a jog to your memory and you will delightfully say "Oh, I remember that". If you have not lived during the WW2 era you will be intrigued by the day to day survival of the Londoners.
