I thought The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul was much weaker than Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. So if you read the second one and it isn't your cup of tea, you should still try the first one.

I found the second book more enjoyable. But to answer your question. No. I actually heard the audiobook of the "The long dark tea time of the soul" first and didn't know this one existed for a few years.
